Green Fair

The South Downs Green Fair

This years Green Fair was on a larger scale than previous events with five members of Hampshire Coppice Craftsmens' Group present.

Between the group members many of the green wood and coppice skills were being demonstrated including:

  • Pole lathe turning
  • Trug making
  • Tent peg making
  • Walking stick making
  • Timber framing

As always the presence of the pole lathe and other demonstrations of coppice crafts drew a big crowd with many people taking a great interest in both turned products and charcoal (Three Copse) as well as the Welsh wizard wands and walking sticks sold by Huw Edwards. Pea and bean sticks and plant stakes sold well too.

After good dry weather for several weeks, there were a few showers, but luckily nothing too bad. We had a few gusts of wind, which were a bit unnerving, but otherwise the weather wasn't too bad. There were plenty of visitors, and they took a lot of interest in what was on show.
